It looks like Air Canada is offering some significantly cheaper fares on their 1 stop flights between Edmonton and Shanghai or Beijing, China. Perhaps they are finally trying to compete with the low cost Asian carriers out of Vancouver that have been so aggressive with their fares in the last year.
Shanghai ($786) looks to be slightly cheaper than Beijing ($820). The cheap fares to China look to be available on a large variety of dates between September 2013 and March 2014.
Update 1: These look to have dropped a little further on certain date combinations. Seeing some fares to Shanghai for around $760 CAD.
I've found that the easiest way to explore these fares is to try a flexible date search on Kayak. Here's an example for late September, early October...

Look for the flights with 1 stop each way in Vancouver. The total travel time should be around 14-16 hours each way.

United just dumped the price of their flights to Taipei, Taiwan in a serious way. They're down to $747 roundtrip after tax at the moment, about 40% cheaper than the next cheapest airlines! This is by far the cheapest I've ever seen flights to Taiwan.

Just noticing that there's a flight in April to Hong Kong, China for $862 roundtrip after tax. All others seem to be a minimum of $1150 or so, but this one is 25% cheaper.
