Low cost carrier Flair Airlines just announced they are pulling out of Abbotsford, BC (YXX) due to the extra competition from Swoop.
It looks like they're going to use these freshly freed up aircraft to operate flights from Edmonton to Ottawa (YOW) instead.
Flair does not include a carry-on bag in their prices, only a personal item. I would use a price of around $320 CAD roundtrip to compare more fairly against Air Canada and Westjet's prices.
Currently, the next cheapest non-stop flights from Edmonton to Ottawa in July & August are going for $563 CAD roundtrip, which is pretty typical. Edmonton-Ottawa has always been an expensive route.
NOTE: The 'Centre Block' of Parliament is currently undergoing a decade long renovation project, so it is closed to visitors. Parliament Hill itself is still open. New guided tours of the Senate of Canada Building and West Block are available.
Vice-versa flights (Ottawa to Edmonton) are also available for a similar roundtrip price.
Update 2/19 - To compete with Flair, Air Canada has dropped the price of their July and August flights from Edmonton to Ottawa down to $250 CAD roundtrip including taxes. Try Monday, Thursday, or Saturday departure dates, and Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday return dates, in July or the first half of August.
